Should i insure my package

For us it boils down to is it cheaper to replace the items or to pay for the insurance. I did use insurance but never had an issue for a package I insured. I stopped using insurance but will only use on very large orders now. I charge the customer the retail shipping price and print out the Etsy labels. That gives me extra money to use in case there is something damaged, if it is not insured. I sell a lot of low priced items, so I can refund without a problem. Some packages go by First class mail and some are media mail and some are Priority.

If the price of the items is I package my items well, so there shouldn't be breakage. In the 21 years of selling online, I have only had 4 packages lost and one that looked like it got run over by a truck. I sned all my postcards as a first class letter without tracking and I have had a few customers say they never got it.

I refunded from my extra money stash. My time is worth insuring on larger orders and so that is how I arrive at that choice. I have never had a problem so far and I hope that lucky streak continues to infinity. All good food for thought. I really appreciate the input. I went the first 10 years of selling online without a problem. As a buyer, I had a few things supplies I had bought online go missing, but never anything I had shipped from my shop.

My first claim was in , then one in September , and I just had another one a couple of weeks ago. I'm not sure if I'm seeing an increase due to sending more things out or if there has been a general decline in performance from the USPS Probably both.

Thank you for your perspectives. I have a lot of labor hours into my items and don't want to risk a lost or damaged package without some insurance. I could pay myself the. If I feel something requires insurance I upgrade to priority. The extra cost is still less than insurance overall. I always buy insurance, even though I haven't had a claim in years just one recently where a package was delivered but nobody was at the residence for over a month, so it went missing.

If I send Priority it is included. If not it is "self insured". I would not send something expensive uninsured and if it was a large box I'd have it signed for and have that understanding up front if they want to waive that, once marked delivered that big box is theirs to worry about getting stolen Seriously though I would have spent thousands of dollars unneccessarily. I have shipped over 10, packages between shops and sites and only had one issue on Ebay in the very beginning that I did not have package tracking for proof of delivery and they knew that and I believe used it against me and I had to refund.

So yes tracking domestic over insurance. Pack well. I do not want to jinx myself but that was the only "missing pacakge" and I have only had 2 breakages in those 10, packages.. And how much money x 10, packages? It IS a gamble but the odds are in your favor..

This way all orders are covered regardess, with some left over in the reserve fund. We just started this a few months ago, and the reserve fund is adding up quick. We do place it on our priority orders too. Wish I had better news, but I hope this helps! Sorry about that! Your email address will not be published. Notify me when new comments are added.
